From Visit to Collaboration: Liberica Coffee and Stingless-Bee Honey Intercropping in Kuningan

At the foot of majestic Mount Ciremai, the fresh air of Kuningan Regency seemed to carry the scent of new hope. February 2026 witnessed a meeting that was more than a courtesy visit — an effort to weave hidden village potential into something lasting. The Rasamala Desa team walked among the Liberica coffee gardens of Liberikaku and listened to the soft hum of stingless bees at Roem Institute. The setting was calm, yet full of innovation waiting to grow.

Here, amid a natural landscape, we are reminded that villages hold extraordinary potential. Often that potential is like an uncut gem — it needs collaboration and innovative approaches to shine. Exploring local potential is the foundation for building villages that are independent and empowered.

Meeting the Weavers of Hope in Kuningan

In the village development ecosystem, every actor has a strategic role. Rasamala Desa works as an empowerment initiator that prioritises strengthening local capacity. We believe village development needs more than administrative programmes — it needs mentoring that reaches the roots.
Liberikaku carefully manages Liberica coffee — a distinctive, resilient variety that has become part of Kuningan’s plantation identity. Completing the harmony, Roem Institute drives stingless-bee (klanceng) honey cultivation — an enterprise that produces high-quality honey while protecting the ecosystem. The three meet with one vision: a more resilient village ecosystem through synergy.

Exploring Synergy in an Intercropped Garden

This Rasamala Desa visit had a clear purpose: to explore cooperation on a demonstration garden that intercrops Liberica coffee with stingless-bee honey. The intercropping concept brings ecological benefits through natural pollination and economic opportunity through diversified farmer income. More than an agricultural project, the initiative is a collaborative, sustainable model of village development oriented toward local independence.

Together, Rasamala Desa, Liberikaku, and Roem Institute are taking the first steps toward a partnership that links commodities, ecosystems, and community livelihoods in Kuningan.
